Trinity and Sydni WalkerTrinity and Sydni Walker were born 13 weeks premature. When caring for the newborn twins became too difficult for their doctors in Lafayette, they were referred to the state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children’s Hospital. Their parents, Mondo and Latasha, fondly remember the day they moved to the unit. “It was beautiful, really unbelievable,” Mondo said. “It was better, a whole lot better.” “It was a big room for both of them and there was a lot of privacy,” said Latasha. “When you have a sick baby in the NICU, you want privacy and Children’s Hospital helps parents with that. You didn’t have to worry about anybody passing by you or anybody pulling you up a chair. It was wonderful.” Trinity and Sydni are now home in Lafayette with their parents and two older brothers. They still sleep with apnea monitors, but are thriving. While they’re thrilled to be home, Mondo and Latasha have nothing but good memories of their time in the NICU at Children’s Hospital. Children’s Hospital is a non-profit organization; in its 53 year history Children’s has never turned away a child in need. |
